The wind, the Machine and the Dog

I was able to take today off since one of my cake orders got moved to tomorrow. Thankfully, because I needed it! We woke up early, once again, to a barking dog. Poor pup, he's so sad. Ate breakfast burritos, kissed the babes goodbye and drove to the swap meet. We found some neat stuff, and this pretty machine was almost ours, but after much deliberation, decided not to get it. Call me crazy.

The wind was kind of crazy today, my hair was being dangerously out of control. I miss having super long hair. There really is nothing like having the wind whip your hair around.

While at the swap meet, we found a new spectra, since we have had a few packs of Polaroid film in our fridge, but it didn't fit our sx-70. I love taking pictures of charlie, because he's so photogenic, and just so happened to get a Polaroid and a digital photo on him doing the exact same thing. Being a babe.

Bye-Bye Blonde

I have SO MUCH to do before Doug gets off work. Like I shouldn't even be on the computer right now. But, here are the photos I promised of my new hair. I need to fix the corner of my bangs, and I am still getting used to the dark color, but it's a nice change. I was tired of bleaching my roots anyways!

And seriously, get a load of this face. Too much, sometimes.

Small Victories

I don't have very much substance to share today. I have had a really productive and successful day. Remade honeycake for Passover and it came out beautifully. Had a lot of success with Pâte à choux, which I don't care what anyone tells you, is not a simple feat. At least not for me. The shells came out WAY big, but incredibly delicate and airy. The white chocolate was a little chaotic for some reason. The assistant put it in a paper pastry bag which I wasn't happy about, but used it anyways. Stupid. Next time I know better.

I also cut and dyed my hair tonight. It's really dark brown and I welcomed back the baby bangs I owned for so many years, except with a slant. I don't know how I feel about it all yet. I'll take better photos tomorrow. I'm totally exhausted. Can't you tell from this horrible photo??

Hair Bows aren't just for Little Girls

I don't know why having a full time job makes me super productive, I guess because I feel like I have less time to do everything I want to do. I have been making these hair bow bobby pins like crazy and I am in love with how little and delicate they are. I am mostly making them for a wholesale order, but will be putting some in my shop.

(Or, if you want some, you can email me amount and color and I can do a custom order. I have just about every color leather/suede.)

Anyways, I love wearing little bitties in my hair, and these bows are pretty perfect! And they keep my fingers busy. (My house is still a mess though, but honestly, who cares!)

So, today, my second day in the bakery, was part a success and part a nervous wreck. I went into it feeling really nervous again and kind of frustrated. I feel like starting anew job makes you question your abilities and feel like a newbie at stuff you have been doing for years. For example, I have been decorating cakes for a long time. I think I'm pretty capable of basic decorating techniques, but with the other lady staring at me and pulling tool out of my hand (thanks, I already have a Mom...) I get super frustrated. The thing is, I am replacing someone who has been a pastry chef for 25+ years. I have been alive only 25+ years. I am not, and will not be, the last guy. I know he taught her everything she knows, but there is a reason they hired someone new and young. They hired me because of stuff like this:

And YES, I know I need to bring my good camera to work and not my shitty cell phone camera. But seriously, How freaking cute. I love little miniatures, and these chocolate covered strawberry miniature bride and groom make me so happy. I sent this photo to Dougie while we were both at work. I hope he didn't get the wrong idea...right idea...wrong idea. haha!

I'm going to get my fingers busy again while my boy is out skateboarding!!

Blonde

Soo...I was going to take photos of some new stuff for the shop, buuuut, I got totally distracted by all the little things around me, like walking Ollie and eating avocados and going blonde (only temporary) and watching stupid TV and curling up on the couch. It is SO hard to be motivated when I only have two days off from work a week and all I want to do is chill. I guess building your own business isn't as easy when you still have to pay bills and all that junk. I promise to be productive the rest of the day.

But, here are a few things I have been doing instead of what I should be doing...

Doug brought me home a huge bag of avocados on Sunday. YUM!

Monster. Oh Monster.

I love Charlie. My hair is still kind of wet, and I have on my favorite favorite sweatshirt ever! It was a gift to Doug from our friend Robbie, who has a little crochet company called Manhands. I don't even know if he still crochets since I think he moved to Seattle to open a cheese shop with his girlfriend. But I hijacked this sweatshirt from Doug and I love it for afternoons in the house. It's an awkward shape and kind of falling apart, but I love it.

And the blonde. Oh the blonde.

I promise I will get busy working now!!
