Bone China Animals are a Good Distraction

I have recently acquired a collection of bone china miniature animals and am so excited to find them all new homes. Sometimes I think of myself as an adoption agency. I collect the inanimate animals and you can adopt them! Give them a good home, feed them dust bunnies, you know, that kind of thing. Bone china miniatures are one of my favorites. I like wooden miniatures, and even the early plastic ones, but bone china is like holding a ice sculpture, or moth wings, in your hands. Fragile and beautiful.
They make me smile and I'm not sure yet if I can let them go...I need more things to make me smile today.

I am unfortunately trying to distract myself from some sadness in my family life right now. I have been so lucky in my 26 years, to have all four of my grandparents in my life, and a healthy family, but after a very long conversation with my Dad this afternoon, that may not be the case for very much longer. To say I am homesick, confused and overwhelmed with pre-grief is just to say the least. Cherish your families. Hug them a lot, and if you're too far away, a phone call is easy as pie. I know that I won't have my grandparents forever, but they are so important to me and the thought of them not being a phone call away is heart wrenching.

The fact that my grandfather, which you probably already know has Alzheimer's, has lived to 90 (on Tuesday, October 4th, he will turn 90 years old,) is a blessing. I still talk to him once a week, although he no longer knows who I am, and I can't be thankful enough for the last 26 years and however long we still have. Nobody knows that, so I won't pretend to.

I'm going to try to get back to work. Life isn't easy. Crying is good. I can't wait to hug Doug extra hard when he gets home.

Leos

We went to the zoo the other day and Doug took this incredible photo of the lion. I am always blown away by his photos, and not just because he's my boyfriend. ;)
He's close enough to hug!!

Zoo is Food for the Soul

We went to the zoo today, got a soft pretzel (uh..not raw, but we've been ridiculously awesome with what we put in our bodies, so it's okay...I did have an awesome banana, blueberry, strawberry, pear cranberry and avocado smoothie today for lunch, sounds weird but it was awesome.) I felt so great today, and the zoo is probably one of my favorite spots. (ps, whats up with my bangs. I wish they would just grow already!)
Today has also been so full of exciting news. We can fully share with everyone on Monday, but in short, we did an interview this morning for an editorial feature on our sunglasses! It was really exciting and we can't wait to share the whole thing on Monday!

With everything happening recently, I am trying to be more organized and be an overall responsible handmade shop owner. I have always been pretty responsible when it comes to shipping and the shop, but the volume of items to be shipped was much lower until recently. Also, we FINALLY got our CA business license. Oops. Now just waiting for our sellers permit to come in the mail. I guess I'm not that responsible...but better late than never, and the people at the Business Bureau said that we are okay with being a little late, as long as we're not making $100,000 MILLION dollars a year, you know. Trust me, we're not. ;) Do you little biz people have all your paperwork together? Was it easy or hard? This is kind of what our life looks like right now and I am absolutely loving it.
After chatting with Carla and Cal earlier, I am super pumped to work a little project of my own. I have been itching to paint more, and not just future cake orders, but really paint. I can't wait to share what I started working on! Those girls are best and I am so excited to have friends I can brainstorm ideas with.

So, that's my day. It was a great day off. We stayed super busy, squeezed in a trip to the zoo, took an afternoon nap, started and finished reading the June Book Club book, ate pretty great, healthy food and drank way too much coffee!! Tomorrow I am going to announce the July Book Club book!

I have two big cake orders tomorrow and want to get back to painting before I go to bed!!

Also, on a whim, I entered this crazy free trip to Paris giveaway. I have little to no hope of actually winning, but if you want to have little to no hope of going to Paris for free, you can enter too!

What I Wore (to the zoo)

We went to the zoo this afternoon while the skies parted for a few hours. It has been raining so very much, and it makes me so sad. But, it was beautiful and sunny and we walked around the zoo. Our favorite weekend tradition. I don't know what's going on with the weird scrunching of my shirt, but I think it's from sitting on the skyfari (which was horrible...we took a video with our flip camera of us freaking out, it's hilarious but we both decided that we'll never go on it again! We both hate heights, if you must know...)
What I wore:
Scarf and sunglasses: Thrifted
Watch: Nixon, a gift from my #1
Bag and shoes: Target
Shirt: Thrifted for $2.00!! Originally Billabong
Jeans: Levis skinny jeans that are falling to pieces...I need new jeans.
Hair bow: Friendship Bow
I have been having so much fun editing video tonight. I seriously forgot how much fun it can be. It's been something like 4 years since I have even touched a video camera, so be kind when I'm done with it!

Teen Mom 2 is on and Doug is so rad, he lets me watch my garbage TV even though he hates it! Ha! I'm going to do some work on the shop tonight since I got the night off. I'm working tomorrow morning, which is kind of laaaame, but I'd rather have the night to spend at home tonight and tomorrow night, than be at home during tomorrows rainy day. I also have some new gems on Monday in the shop.

Have a good night!
