Dialect Video

All the rage, here is my dialect video. Be kind.
Say these words:

Aunt, Route, Wash, Oil, Theater, Iron, Salmon, Caramel, Fire, Water, Sure, Data, Ruin, Crayon, Toilet, New Orleans, Pecan, Both, Again, Probably, Spitting image, Alabama, Lawyer, Coupon, Mayonnaise, Syrup, Pajamas, Caught

Now answer these questions:

What is it called when you throw toilet paper on a house?
What is the bug that when you touch it, it curls into a ball?
What is the bubbly carbonated drink called?
What do you call gym shoes?
What do you say to address a group of people?
What do you call the kind of spider that has an oval-shaped body and extremely long legs?
What do you call your grandparents?
What do you call the wheeled contraption in which you carry groceries at the supermarket?
What do you call it when rain falls while the sun is shining?
What is the thing you change the TV channel with?

Video Blog Tutorial

I've been challenged by Danielle to create a video blog tutorial for our Spring into Summer Blog Feature. easy enough, right! Wrong. I really wants to challenge myself to go above and beyond to create the ultimate blog tutorial. I spent a lot of time working on this little doozy today and I hope you love it!I hope, most of all, that it inspires you to to make more video blogs! (I may decorate cake for a living, but a piece of my heart will always still be in film school.)
And just because I have been asked, I use a Sony Handycam HD with a Opteka .45x HD 52mm Wide Angle Lens. I edit using Windows Movie Maker right now, but in the near future, I am going to be getting a mac book pro. Eventually. With Final Cut Pro. I have been asked to do some freelance editing recently and had to turn the job down because I don't have FCP anymore. (Due to some unfortunate events during and after film school, my computer, flat screen monitor and HD camera no longer belong to me.) I am really excited to start building that collection back up. ANYWAYS! Here is my video blog tutorial. I'll tell you right now, there are some awesome awkward pauses which I am known for, and my weird accent, in full force.

Danielle just did the cutest video about some of her thrifting finds.

Monster's Adoption Story Video Blog

Hiya pals! Remember a long time ago when I wrote up Ollie's adoption Story? Well, it's been a long time, and I promised to follow up with the other pups...well..I forgot. I totally forgot, until I started seeing all the really cute videos and blog posts about dogs and remembered that I should have done this years ago...okay, maybe months ago, so anyways, it's Monster's turn.
Here it is. In video, nonetheless.

Whoa. Look who has serious bed head!! (It always looks like this!) I still feel like such a kook when I make videos, but I hope you enjoyed Monsters adoption story and a little about him. Also, I should have taken notes or something before I made this because it took me like 8 times and by the way, do you love how Charlie kept trying to get into the video? And seriously, his face just keeps getting stranger as the video goes on.

I hope you liked my video and monster's goofy face. What's your pups adoption story? I'd love to hear about it! If you make a video with your pet, send me the link!

Video Blog Vol 3 - Flea Market Finds and Dieting

***I wrote this post before I went to work, but the video wasn't done uploading...so it's a little late...sorry! AND for some reason cuts off after the kitchen timer.....I can't figure out why...but will try to fix it...sorry.***

Okay so, there is a lot going on in this post. Firstly, here is a video blog of some of our flea market finds from this morning. Don't mind my cat, he's an asshole. I love him, but seriously, he's a total jerk.

We went to Phil's BBQ for lunch today after the flea market. There was a line around the building to get in 15 minutes before it opened, but we stuck it out and in no time, we had gotten into the bar (and didn't have to wait in line for-ev-er) and then experienced the best BBQ in the world. If you are in the San Diego area and you are not a vegetarian, then you should definitely visit Phil's BBQ next to Kobey's Swap Meet.
It is our farewell (for at least a little while) to insane amount of heart attack inducing food. Is it true? Is it really true? Yes. I am afraid so, we are starting a diet, ahem, making healthier choices. No fun at all. But to be perfectly honest with you, I feel like crap. I ride my bike all the time, I walk to the post office and take the dogs on walks every day. I move around at work constantly. But it isn't enough. I don't feel good. So, Doug agreed to go on a no-processed foods diet with me. That means no more coca-cola (I'm dyyyyyying, already, just thinking about it) and no more junk food, chips, mac&cheese, hot dogs, gummy bears, alfredo pasta, etc etc etc. I don't know how long it will go on for, and how we will adjust, but I will definitely be updating (and complaining) as much as possible.

I also just bought Simply Pilates and will be exploring how I like pilates. I HATE doing yoga, and after talking to some friends, I am going to give pilates a shot. Gosh, I sound like such a nerd. Dieting, pilates-ing. What's next? I'm not one to really get behind anything, especially these kinds of things, which makes it so hard for me to share them with ya'll, but I'm tired of feeling like I am gaining weight again. I'm scared. I just want to be healthy.

I am excited about this weekend. Our friends Sarah and Cody are going to be in town and we don't get to see them often. I am trying to get tomorrow off...we'll see what happens. Gotta get ready for work now, have a wonderful Friday night!

Video Blog Vol 2. and Hamantaschen Recipe

My second video blog about a project I have been working on, some sweets and a cute pup.

And in case you were wondering, there really is such a thing as too much Hamantaschen. This is what my station at work looked like for the better part of the afternoon today.
Purim is next week, and we just got an order for 500 more. Looks like my tomorrow will look the same, as I'm working a double, first in the bakery and then the night in the deli. I hope it goes by fast, I want to go to National City for the swap meet on Saturday. I am really looking forward to it, 1) because we're going to shoot a new video, and 2) because it's been raining the past 2 weekends and we haven't been to the swap meet at all.

Also, if you feel like making your own Hamantaschen, here is a super good recipe.
This yeilds 24 small cookies.
-3 eggs
1 cup of granualted sugar
3/4 cup of veg, oil
1/2 cup orange juice
2.5 tsp vanilla extract (clear, if you have it)
5.5 cups of all-purpose flour
1 tbsp baking powder

Combine eggs, sugar, oil, vanilla and juice. Add dry ingredients and mix until stiff.
Chill dough over night. This is very important, if you don't so this, your dough will bake weird.
roll out your dough until it is a little under 1/4 of an inch thick.
Cut out rounds using a jar lip or cookie cutter.

Scoop 1 spoonful of your favorite preservative into the center. We sell a lot of poppy seed and prune, but I wouldn't touch the stuff. I like cherry, apricot and I bet peach or blueberry would be good.

Brush on egg wash to outer round. Pinch the edges to create a triangle. Make sure you pinch them tight or the preserves will seep out and it will make a mess.

Bake at 350 degrees for 12-15 minutes or until lightly browned.
Enjoy!
