I Heart Cheezburger-Cake

Somethings are not what they seem.
These little treats are triple decker cupcake, two layers of white cake, and one layer of devils food, layered with buttercream, coconut, strawberry filling and fondant. The french fries are sugar cookies tossed with sugar and covered with a strawberry filling.
I got the template for the little picnic box here! I kept wanting to pop one of those french fries in my mouth, but then remembered they were cookies!!

A Rose is a Carrot is a Patty melt is a Chocolate Butterfly

When I got off work today, I rode my bike home in the rain and it was not awesome. But, I made it home, ate delicious patty melt that one of the cooks at work made me. When it wa sready he said to me "you're one of us now!" and it was rad. It was a pretty good day. It's weird getting back in the swing of things. I know that I am good at what I do, but sometimes nerves and wanting to do everything right can make for a kind of stressful day. It will get better and easier. Here's some crappy cell phone pictures of my day.
The aftermath of a carrot cake.
And some black and white butterfly cupcakes.
And when I got home, I ate my sandwich and then played dress up with pretty roses from my garden. I am so excited that we have the prettiest rose bush. It's kind of out of control. Just like my hair today!

I'm going to talk Doug into going to the movies with me. Later dudes!

Red Velvet Fauxstess Cupcakes

I know, I know, more baking, but getting ready for this little birthday party has been so much fun! I finished the cake and the cupcakes and we're heading over there in a few hours when Doug gets done working.

I ended up making Red Velvet Fauxstess Cupcakes. Okay, they aren't really faux, since they aren't vegan, they just aren't Hostess *out of the package* cupcakes. And I like saying fauxstess. I'm all about the cute right now. Not so much into the tailored, designer baked goods, I like the imperfections of handmade and since I am not making these to sell in a schmoosy bakery front, I am pretty happy with them.

Step one - fill the inside of the cake with squishy, delicious cream cheese frosting.
Step two - Top with a melty chocolate ganache
Step three - Let your boyfriend taste Test...
Step four - Swirly white icing and viola! Red Velvet Fauxstess!
I am chilling the cake and cupcakes right now but will take some photos and post them on my flickr, if you want to take a peek. I need to get ready to go to this party in the park and then the zoo! Oh, I love the zoo. I have the next 3 days off and am going to get started on completing my To-Do list. Wish me luck.

Bec

UGH!

This is how I feel today. Too many words to fit in a word bubble. Obsessively thinking about everything that is happening, worrying, worrying, stressing out, trying to fit too much in a box, not enough in another, sweeping, cleaning, stressing. Ugh! I just keep telling myself FIVE MORE DAYS!!!!

Here are some things that make me feel less stressed out, and very very happy.

This was our portrait in front of our Christmas tree (that you can't see) last Christmas. It was the first tree I have had since I was 8 years old. We NEVER had christmas trees at my Mom's house and my roommates had always gotten trees, but they had never been mine! Doug picked this tree out with me and we decorated it and I was totally in love. I can't wait to celebrate Christmas this year in our new house!! I have more ornaments from estate sales and the like that I have been collecting and am super excited to use!
OWL CUPCAKES! I'm going to make these after I get my kitchen set up in SD. I want to make some cupcakes for Greg and Paula as a huge thank you for everything. These may be the ones.
Bedazzled Taxidermy by Angela Singer She is one of my favorite taxidermy artists. Her work is incredible and if I cold afford it, I would have all of her work in our house.
Oh, and I stopped by the old bakery I used to manage, to pick up a thank you box of treats for the post office I go to every day. A little good-bye gift. I also got a box of Halloween cupcakes for Doug that Jes baked. When I hired Jes, I knew I made the right choice, and now she is running that kitchen. Cupcakes are her specialty.

You should visit her pretty blog and etsy store ilaughyellow
Can you tell how much I adore her? I hope she knows it too...

I CAN'T get motivated today. Doug has been doing stuff all day and I can't get moving. Oh well, I guess now is better than never. I have a to-do list that makes me sick just looking at it.

xo!
