Things of late.

We are in the midst of huge, huge life changing production in our business and it's all consuming. Like our workshop is currently seeping into every other room in our house. Our back guest room has been fully converted into a photo studio, the living room floor has become a full on gluing station, and it seems like I find random places to do other work in. It is exciting, and exhausting and scary, but we are taking some huge leaps and bounds, and I'm excited to watch the roller coaster drop.

This morning has been focused on cleaning and organizing before I get to work. Doug went to Georgia for a mini-skate trip and it's weird having the day to myself. I'm not used to it. I'm taking lots of photos for upcoming blog posts and learning a new photo editing program and cleaning this house. Having a three and a half bedroom house means a lot more work than keeping a one bedroom house clean. I am not complaining, but I am also not neat and organized, so having a full day of cleaning this house is exhausting. You can follow along with me adventures in moving in and decorating on instagram (becalewis) and twitter.

This morning, I also took a second to take a self portrait. My hair has changed recently, and I've lost (to date) 14 pounds since we moved to Tennessee. Yikes. So, it seemed about time to show y'all my face. Also, it's self portrait Saturday over on the Manzanita blog, so I thought I would join along. I used to do self portrait sunday, but of course, like everything else in my life, I didn't follow through with it. Ooooh well. I'm pretty stoked on being blonde again. It happens once every few years, and I may stick with it this time.

I have lots of neat posts this week. And a pretty awesome mother's day giveaway you don't want to miss happening HERE later today. I guess I have been a pretty terrible blogger lately, so thanks for sticking around and keeping me company when I do show up.

PS thanks from both Doug and I for all of your sweet comments on my last post. Made my heart happy!

Self Portrait Sunday

I hate photos of myself. I just do. I guess that makes it hard for me to be a good blogger, right? Well, I'm trying to take more photos of myself and be more comfortable in front of the camera. Because everyone should love photos of themselves.

hair clips from Lost Cabin
Can you spot my new hair clips from Lost Cabin. I got them in the mail yesterday and I LOVE them! My glasses will be available in our shop on the first of March.
saucony
Also, Doug got me new sneakers yesterday. I love Saucony, Since I was a little punk in high school, I loved Saucony, so when I saw these yesterday on the way home from my grandparents house, my need for sneakers kicked in. I know, I know, they aren't fancy awesome running shoes. We're trying to save money right now though, so $50 Saucony's will be just fine for bike riding and dog walking. Better than my Minnetonkas or vans slip-ons.

I'm getting ready to power clean the house, and then go to Corbitt's 4th birthday party. I was up until 2 making his cake last night. I'll share photos of the perfect boys birthday cake tomorrow.

How was your weekend?

Red Velvet Fauxstess Cupcakes

I know, I know, more baking, but getting ready for this little birthday party has been so much fun! I finished the cake and the cupcakes and we're heading over there in a few hours when Doug gets done working.

I ended up making Red Velvet Fauxstess Cupcakes. Okay, they aren't really faux, since they aren't vegan, they just aren't Hostess *out of the package* cupcakes. And I like saying fauxstess. I'm all about the cute right now. Not so much into the tailored, designer baked goods, I like the imperfections of handmade and since I am not making these to sell in a schmoosy bakery front, I am pretty happy with them.

Step one - fill the inside of the cake with squishy, delicious cream cheese frosting.
Step two - Top with a melty chocolate ganache
Step three - Let your boyfriend taste Test...
Step four - Swirly white icing and viola! Red Velvet Fauxstess!
I am chilling the cake and cupcakes right now but will take some photos and post them on my flickr, if you want to take a peek. I need to get ready to go to this party in the park and then the zoo! Oh, I love the zoo. I have the next 3 days off and am going to get started on completing my To-Do list. Wish me luck.
XO,
Bec
