The Truth about Kittens and Paws

{Unfortunately I don't have the source to this, a facebook friend posted it...if you do, let me know!}
I am a kitten owner. I say that 1, because it's true, and 2, because I never thought I would be stoked to admit that I love it. I am a dog person, through and through. I love dogs, everything about them. I have had dogs my entire life and can only remember a short period in my childhood after my sweet golden retriever  Honey Royale. died from cancer, that we didn't have dogs. My parents had recently divorced and Honey was living with my dad, and after she passed away, I didn't even want another dog. And then, a stray cat found me. I named him Bowzer and we had a blast. He would kill birds and leave them on the porch for me, I wold hold him to my chest while I jumped on the trampoline, and he didn't even try to kill me. I brought him to my Dad's house, and then he ran away. I said never again to cats because no cat could be Bowzer. We got 4 dogs and 2 turtles, and of course had LeRoy, the amazon parrot. I worked at the Humane society for years as a teenager, and got my fill of animals there too.
When I graduated college, I got a cat. His name is Mookyo and I have had him for 6 years.  He is not really a cat. He is more of an entity. He is bossy and bold, he guards our property like a champ and lays around the porch, back of the couch or on top of the washing machine like he owns the place. He doesn't cuddle or return the love we show him. He has almost died twice, he has traveled cross country with us. He's just Mookyo, a part of our family. Not really a cat. Whenever anyone asks about our pets, I naturally talk about the dogs, and happen to mention that we have a giant cat too. Not that I don't love him, because I really, really do. But he just doesn't really care much one way or another.
And then we got Memow. Well, we actually found the three kittens, just a week after I mentioned off handed to Doug that I wanted a kitten. Our house was crawling with itty bitty 5 week old kittens. Memow stole my heart though. He is sweet and affectionate. He sleeps next to my head, is under my feet all day long, and is a little nose biter. He wakes me up by leaping on my stomach, and it's cute. IT'S CUTE! I never thought those words would come out of my mouth. I love this kitten, and I can actually proudly say I am a cat owner (after I first say I'm a dog owner......ha.) Even Ollie and Charlie love the kitten. They sleep together, and play together, and drink out of the same water bowl. I am in constant shock with their growing friendship.
So, people of the world and readers of my blog, now you know. I have been converted. I love this kitten. Mostly because he kind of acts like a dogs, but still just the same! What are your thoughts on dogs and cats? Do you love them both equally? Do you have both, or just one or the other? Have you been converted by a certain cat (or dog, for all you catists.)

xo,
Beca

{And in case you are curious, Memow is 9 weeks old now, I think. He is almost doouble in size from when we found him. he likes crackers and will jump in your lab while you're eating and paw at your food. He loves the big cat, although Mookyo doesn't feel it just quite yet. He also has the fattest belly, and loves to eat. I may have to start watching his food consumption so he doesn't become obese!!! Also, he loves Doug more than anything, they are the best of friends...swoooooooon.}

  2. I think I love both cats and dogs equally... maaaybe dogs just a tiny bit more. We were very close to getting a kitty a few months ago. But I said no. Too much work for more than 1 pet right now.

  3. I grew up a cat person because the dog we had when I was young was very wild and untrained. By the time I was out on my own, I wanted a dog, now I can proudly say I am a "both" person. M however, has always said he's a cat person through and through. He was VERY apprehensive about us getting a dog. VERY. But Emmett has won him over. Now he says he 'only likes our dog.' But it's a start!

Kittens sure are sweet though! my kitten used to put his face in my bowl of mashed potatoes! haha, and steal cheetos and lick all the "cheese" off of them. super silly.

  7. i love dogs and always will but like your experience with bowzer, after my last dog died (she got out three days before i came home to visit my dad in the hospital - i never found her but got a call from a crying shelter worker who said she had seen her on the side of the road, tried to get her to come to her but she didn't and then saw her dead on the side of the road the next day) i haven't found it in my heart to really love any dog like i loved her... one day i hope to find that special puppy again but for now i have andrew's cats who are really amazing and helped me to become a kitty lover. memow is so cute and i love that he gets along with the doggies. i like that you have mookyo too - i think i'd probably get along with him best :)
