There are few ways to make a red velvet sweeter, but adding two drops of red coloring to the cream cheese frosting to make it slightly pink is one way! I felt like making a cake this afternoon when work was done, and since Doug loves red velvet, that's what I made, and just in time for valentines day.
I wanted to make a 10 or 15 layer cake, but I ended up only making 7. It was really awesome, I ate just a few bites. I'm about to walk out the door to go make dinner at Doug's mom's house. Back to the seven days of soup. I'm making cream of broccoli for day 3, I hope it comes out good.

ReplyDeleteoh, thank you!
DeleteYou have such a beautiful blog full of beautiful pictures, but this cake made me comment as well. I've never tried red velvet cake, as it's not a hugely popular choice in England, but this valentines day I'm determined to track down a great recipe and make it for the husband, (and I. shhh!) Your rose decorations make it extra special. If mine turns out a fraction as delicious looking then I'm onto a winner. x
ReplyDeleteHi Katie. I hope you get this reply, because making red velvet is super easy, way easier than people think. And if you want a cheat, instead of doing a full from scratch cake, use white cake mix, 3 or 4 TBLS cocoa, and red food coloring. It will taste exactly the same! ;) Thanks for your kind words!
