Old Fashion Dutch Open Faced Apple Pie

Fall is here!! It's rainy and chilly outside! I made this pie today. I keep walking by it and picking apples out and popping them in my mouth. So delicious. Can't wait to have a slice for dinner!

Recipe:
5-7 medium sized apples, quartered, not peeled (Use the de-seeded middle section for topping)
1-1.5 cups of sugar
1 TBSP Cinnamon
2 TSP Nutmeg
dash of brown sugar
.5 cup of butter
2 TBSP flour

..melt butter with sugar on low in iron skillet
..toss in apples and dry ingredients
..cook apples with sugar until apples are fully caramelized
(or as my boss used to say, it looks like apples in camel snot, however this recipe is very different than the standard apple pie, as you really are caramelizing the apples, and I don't use cornstarch in this recipe. it maintains the juiciness of the fruit and consistency of melted caramel.)
..Bake at 375 for 30-45 minutes. Until skin is wrinkled, caramel is bubbling and apples are very soft and juicy.

Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or cool whip. Yum!

I finally got our living room clean and half packed. I can't pack the rest until next weekend since we use all the tools and stuff. But, that's 3 rooms down, 2 to go.

xo.
