If You Really Knew Me

Taking a cue from Danielle's blog, and filling up the space with some facts about me. Maybe you are a new reader, or an old one who is bored and wants to know a little more about the person behind this space. Blogging is weird sometimes, we feel like we really know someone, really really know them, but we really only know what they chose to share. I guess this is me choosing to share a little more. Not like I ever hold anything back anyways.

If you really knew me:

You'd know that I know almost every single lyric to almost every single Kanye West song. It's my favorite road trip music, and after being in the van for 3200 miles a few months ago, Kanye was practically on repeat.

You'd know that I am incredibly self conscious, to a point where I come off as being a super bitch but really I am just going over every single moment in my head trying to figure out why you're going to think I'm a weirdo. I am also incredibly guarded and protective of what matters most to me, which tends to come across as mean, I've been told.

You'd know that I am incredibly resilient and have battled the worst of nightmares. I have grown so much in the last 5 years, I feel like a different person. I am strong, happy and loved person.

You'd know that I worry constantly about our business and our livelihood. That I feel guilty for sleeping, so I rarely do. That I can't see the future, and that scares the shit out of me.

You'd know that I change my clothes at least 3 times a day. I always have. I guess it's habit, but I am 75% positive it drives Doug crazy, especially when we are getting ready to leave the house. My mom told me once - a long time ago, when we we're still in each others lives - that I did this even as a baby. Change in and out of clothes. What a funny little girl I am.

You'd know that I get sick when I eat onions and raw raspberries, have a milk allergy and am lactose intolerant. I cheat sometimes though and eat ice cream. I always pay for it when my throat swells up and itches like crazy.

You'd know that I get really attached to movies/tv shows/book series and take it hard when they end. I cry often over such matters.

You'd know I live for breakfast. Oatmeal and fruit, pancakes, waffles, eggs and bacon, hashbrowns, sausage, grits, puffs, beets and pears. You name it, I love it.

You'd know that I couldn't balance a checkbook, keep to a budget or responsibly own a credit card if someone paid me too. Worst. Idea. Ever.

You'd know I start lots of projects that I never finish. I would say I'm sorry but....

You'd know that I take one look at my little family - Doug and the boys - and feel so much fullness. I am full of love and happiness and pride. I can't say it enough, but it's so true. I feel like the luckiest.

Lastly, you'd know that my favorite color is Gold, I like sour candy and I like doing dishes but I hate vacuuming. I don't like being called Rebecca and my biggest pet peeve is the sound of people eating in movies or on TV.

Tell me all about you!
xo,
Beca

  1. Thanks so much for sharing these little facts about you. I change my clothes constantly as well, I don't know what it is? Perhaps I am never truly comfortable in my own skin. Who knows!

  3. The more I learn about you, the more awesome you seem! I change my outfit before leaving at least once or twice too, and I usually end up leaving a huge clothes mess behind. >_< And I've never once thought you came across as mean- you're one of the nicest bloggers I know! :)

  4. I really loved "You'd know I start lots of projects that I never finish. I would say I'm sorry but...." I'm like that too, and need to stop apologizing for it! (to myself mainly) it's part of who we are, right? Thanks for this post, I'm a new reader and really enjoyed it.

Liz Fact #2: I listened to lots of musicals as youngster. Like, almost only musicals and soundtracks.

  8. I love this post Beca!

Blogging IS weird and I've never really been able to let myself disclose much in the way of mine. I'm incredibly self conscious too and I think up crazy things in my head about what people much think/say/feel about me. It's extremely silly. Growing up my mom always told me that I feel this way because I pour myself into making things - that I care so much about what I do and how it makes me feel - that sharing it with others is really scary.

  9. Soul Sister,
I think my self consciousness is mistaken for bitchiness/being stuck up too. For example, last night M's band had a show and I've been so self conscious about my body lately that I didn't want to get dressed and go at all. And then when I was there, I didn't want to talk to anyone because I was so self conscious about my body.

I feel like I am a totally different person than I was 5 years ago. 5 years ago I just met M and was totally shy/self conscious. I still am, but not nearly as much as I used to be! 5 years ago I would have NEVER said "hey Beca, you're awesome let's meet IRL" because I would be too shy. I still am pretty shy, but my want to meet you outweighs it :)

I ALWAYS feel guilty when I take a break from my shop to watch TV with M or just hang out with friends. I feel like I'm letting my customers down and worry about losing business.

    I LIVE FOR BREAKFAST TOO!!!

I try to be good with my money, but my credit card bill is RIDIC.

I have a closet full of crochet / sewing projects that are waiting to be completed. (see comment about feeling guilty about not working on my shop.)

I feel so happy about my husband / pet family too. People keep asking us about kids, but they don't understand that we don't need them to feel complete :)

    My favorite color is copper!

  10. I love these kind of posts, but rarely do them myself because I never think of anything I think would be remotely interesting.

It's funny, even though I know your name is Beca, I never thought about your full name being Rebecca. :x My mom actually wanted me to start going by just Rebecca [it's my middle name, I don't go by Mary Rebecca IRL] but I was afraid people would start calling me Becky or Becca and I didn't think that sounded like me.

    1. It's funny, when I first met dougs mom, she would only call me Rebecca and I thought she was mad at me! I love Beca, but Rebecca is too formal.

  12. It's always fun to read posts like this and realize you have something in common with someone else. I am the same way with being guarded and people always think I'm mean or scary. I've had friends who said they were afraid of me before they got to know me. They thought I was judging them but I was wondering if they were judging me! Go figure. I change my clothes about twice a day and I feel weird if I don't. Who wears the same outfit all day? :)

    1. I think everyone has layers of comfort and we express them differently. I'm trying to be more open and less interior.

  13. Thanks for letting us get to know more about you! Some of these things are super awesome, like constantly changing your clothes (I do the exact same!) and having gold as your favorite color (how regal!). But all those food allergies suck! At least you get to cheat with some ice cream now and then. :)

  15. even more reasons we were meant to be the best of friends. i can relate to pretty much all of these (except kanye and milk and raspberries, sorry), but especially the thing about clothes! i change all. the. time. chris gets so annoyed. i've done it for as long as i can remember, and my mom used to fuss at me because there would be enough clothes in my hamper after just one day to fill up the washing machine. now i don't throw everything in the hamper after wearing it for 10 minutes, but i do still change all the time. i think it's because i'm so self-conscious. will people laugh at me if i wear this? will my thighs look too big in this? what a hassle! but now i don't have to worry about doing it when you come to stay because you won't get frustrated with me!
