Woodland Wares : Vintage Maxi Dress

I am not a maxi dress kind of girl. I have a tall Dutch body - big bones, wide shoulders, long long legs. So, maxi dresses look extra, um, maxi on me and usually don't even touch my ankles. But I decided to take a risk on this dress because I really, really loved it. We stopped by our friends clothing shop the other day and I couldn't pass this gem up for $22. I'm not going to lie, as soon as I pull out my sewing machine, it's getting hemmed to a more comfortable length, but I have worn it a few times since I got it, and the length is...growing on me? I may also dye it black. Sorry folks, I just can't help it! There are also some other great parts of this outfit, like my new glasses (thanks, Doug) and my favorite Minnetonka moccasins ever of all time.

It doesn't even come close to being a real maxi though. And it sort of feels like I'm wearing pajamas, but old fashioned, prairie pajamas. Here is another truth. I almost didn't post these photos. My bangs are all messy, my face looks tired, I could go on and on, but then I stopped and said "who cares" I love this outfit and I work at home, so I don't have to fix my damn hair, I've lost 15 pounds (although you can't really tell with this dress!) I never sleep, so of course my face looks tired. Duh. So from someone who hates photos of herself, and never wears a maxi, here's to you, Monday! Here's to you.

How do you feel about maxi dresses? Do you wear them? Do you loathe them? Happy Monday!

Beca

  1. I'm SO weird about maxi dresses too. I'm too tall, my hips are too...well, they're love handles, straight up. & yeah. But I want to give it a shot. You pulled this off perfectly! I don't care what you say, sleepy or not, this dress is SO you & you are friggin adorable in it! So there. =)

  2. I wear several maxi dresses in rotation every week because it is the easiest way to adhere to the professional dress code at the orthodox school where I teach. Women are required to wear skirts, cover their knees and elbows every day so a maxi dress is a perfect pick!

    1. I bet maxi dresses are great when teaching. When I taught middle school, it was so hard to get clothes that didnt make me look 50, or 15. I hate to admit that I once wore a pair of pants to work and realized that one of my 8th graders was wearing the same ones! ugh...

  3. I am short, but I wear them anyway (and love them). In fact, they are all I want to wear these days. I bought a brightly colored one at Target recently, I have a few plain ones, and I got a pretty two-blue silk one from Old Navy not too long ago. I can't get enough!

  4. I feel like I'm way too short for maxi dresses (5'2" whaddduuup). I reeeally love the look of them, though. If I find a super deal, I may give it a try.

I adore your hair! If I end up with bangs this summer, it's so your fault. ;)

  5. I bought my first maxi dress the other day and love it! I'm 5"9 so they are never going to touch the floor on me, but I found some long ones at Belk. This is one I didn't get...and now I kinda wish I had

  6. haha I love it! I love that you likened it to wearing pajamas. My 95 year old Auntie wears very similar dresses but in bright 70s florals that I'm never sure if she's wearing clothes or pajamas. The bow in your hair is adorable too. I've never tried a maxi dress but I should considering it's the only kind of dress you don't have to shave your legs for.

  10. The dress is cute, I wouldn't worry! I would be interested to see how it looks shorter and black...I've never even thought of the idea of dying my own clothes.

    1. We have a bad tendency to dye everything darker in this house.

  11. I love maxi dresses, they are SO comfy and this one is especially adorable. I think it will look great black and shorter too! Too bad that pretty coloured embroidery will get dyed though.

You are so silly...you don't look tired at all, even if you are! You look adorable. I love your hair like this and with a bow, it's cute as shit so hush up!! (Also shit is not cute...I don't know where that phrase came from ever haha)

  12. I generally have mixed feelings about maxi dresses. I don't wear dresses/skirts a whole lot so they can feel really fancy to me.YOU looks adorbs tho. Why are we so harsh on ourselves? I do the same thing with pictures all. the. time.

  13. i love the embroidery on that bitch. also, dresses are pretty much the next best thing after pajamas, and that's why i always wear them! i love that you posted this, because you're so much cooler than most anyone else that posts the same mod cloth dress that every single other blogger has.
