Welcome to Steinhatchee

020
I am sure at some point you're going to get sick of me posting photos of the woods and the swamp, but my dear sweet friends, that's just about all there is to look at out here, and it sure is prettier than looking at freeways and buildings. I haven't had a chance until now to share a little about the place we are currently living. We ARE still moving to Tennessee, but made a last minute decision to stay in Steinhatchee, Florida for a few months to be closer to our families and get a lot of work done.

Steinhatchee is pretty small, and for comparison, it is a quarter of the size of the high school I went to in Phoenix, a whooping 1200 people. There is an ace hardware, a jiffy gas station, Maddys grocery store, a post office (with quite erratic hours) and a handful of bar/cafes. Oh and there is a Hungry Howie's Pizza with wifi. We're talking big city! Steinhatchee is a fishing town, and hunting mecca. There are more hunting dogs than people (more on that later) and it is just about as beautiful as you can ask for out here. I spend most of my time wearing rain boots and when we're not working on sunglasses, we're tromping around the woods.

Our road isn't paved, we don't have trash pick-up, or mail delivery. There is a closed down fish market across the street, and lots of stray animals. It's been really neat so far experiencing an entirely new place, so opposite from San Diego and Tucson, and I love it. I can't wait to share more of our adventures in Steinhatchee, and then Chattanooga!

Beca

  3. Oh my god, I can't believe you have a Hungry Howies!!! Life isn't fair!! They have the best pizza for the value (large 1 topping for 5.99, in L.A. at least). I still get cranky looking for a cheap GOOD pizza place here in Denver.

also, i could look at woods and swamps all day.
